Amazing Product! Aug 26, 2010
By Shirley Priscilla Johnson
"Author/Reviewer - Florida"
Let me say this is one amazing product. I at first thought it was just some high tech watch that perhaps did a few things extra but was I ever wrong. This watch is amazing.
Here are some of the features I found right off:
It takes photos, both in real time or you can use the time elapse feature It has a lie detector built in, we used this feature right away and it was really fun It is a video camera and you can take video or record voice without anyone knowing it It has a full screen, easy to see and easy to operate It tells time in many different time zones It can be connected to your computer by USB and you can download missions It has a built in voice changer that is a lot of fun to use It also has several add on features that can be purchased separately that we plan to look into in the future
And that my friend is just the beginning of this wonderful watch.
My granddaughter and I had a blast with it for several hours. We recorded everyone, took pictures, videoed, it was great fun. We than decided we wanted to download a mission. Understand, you do not have to download missions or interact with the website to enjoy this product. It's totally up to you . If you decide to download missions it will probably require adult help and/ or someone familiar with computers. I am well versed with computers and I still had to call customer service for a couple of quick solutions. I was delighted when a real person answered the phone(with no waiting)! She was very courteous and knowledgeable. Within a few minutes we were back on track and completing our first mission. The missions are clear good quality videos with easy to follow instructions.
I have not had it long enough to tell you how durable it is, however it appears to be very well made.
I am very impressed with this product, it is definitely top-notch in fun and entertainment. My 11 year old granddaughter used the product with ease and loves it. Of course understand Grandma's can have just as much fun with it as well, and I am living proof of that. Amazing product, well worth your money. Enjoy!

If only the battery life could be longer. Sep 12, 2010
By J. Lesley
"(Judy)"
This Spy Watch seems to represent the battle between different age groups. The 9 year old girl who is playing with it thinks it is absolutely fabulous. The adults who have to keep the watch charged so that she can play with it are not very happy about the TLC this toy requires. The child I'm talking about does not have full access to a computer, she is still required to have complete adult supervision while she's on the computer, therefore, when the watch instantly looses all battery charge with no warning it is the adults who must take the time to get it back up and running. It isn't always convenient to do this right at that moment.
It seemed that the battery was losing it's charge much too quickly. Ultimately it would not recharge at all. I made a quick call to Customer Service with the company which supplied the watch. The person I spoke with was very courteous and helpful. I was told to use the reset feature on the back of the watch and then plug it into the proper USB port on my computer, make sure the watch was charging, and allow it to fully charge. If the watch wouldn't recharge after this then there might be a problem with the battery. I followed the instructions, the watch did recharge, but in using the reset all the information on the watch was lost. This wasn't any big deal to the child because she was just glad to be snapping pictures again of everything she saw. The initial charging of the watch resulted in the battery lasting about five hours, from then on two hours is about the length it will stay charged.
For it's size the videos and recordings and photos this watch makes are quite remarkable. I can see why children enjoy playing with it so much. My 9 year old girl was not interested in going to the website provided to download more games and missions. She likes to play with it on her own. There are other items offered by this company to expand the use of this watch but my child hasn't shown any interest in getting any of those. As someone who has to be in charge of keeping up with the specific USB connector that came with the watch and fiddling with getting it recharged, I'm not quite so impressed. Perhaps a child in the upper age range, say an 11 or 12 year old, might be likely to have more free access to a computer. They could be responsible for keeping the battery charged. For us it really is all coming down to the length of time the battery will stay charged.
edit 12/03/10: A very nice person left a comment on this review stating that the watch does have a battery gauge feature on it. We will have to be sure to pay attention to that feature from now on.

A fun multi-featured product Sep 15, 2010
By Wayne As "spy watches" go, this one does a lot. All of its features are fun, some of them are practical, and some are gimmicks.
One of the fun features is the lie detector. It uses stress levels in the voice to determine if a person is telling the truth. After calibrating it with a true statement from a user, it examines subsequent statements and determines the probability that they are correct. Unlike a magic 8 ball, this feature can be surprisingly accurate. But it can also be way off. Although it can have trends that leave you surprised if it gets it wrong with some users, and overall is far more accurate than sheer chance, my son was a bit disappointed when he initially viewed it as a "real" lie detector. You have to approach this as a novelty feature and have fun with it.
The video and audio features are what you might expect from something in this price range. They are above "toy" quality, but not what you'd get from either a low end mainstream video or audio device. Still, the video quality will beat that of the video feature added on to many still cameras at twice the price. The quality fares well compared to competing "spy" products such as those from Eyeclops. It is far better than cheaper toys such as the watch from Wild Planet that claims to be the best spy watch ever. Perhaps this one deserves that title instead.
The voice changer can be fun. It's not a sophisticated tool, but works well enough that it can make a child sound like an old man, a boy sound like a young girl, or an adult sound like a child. It's enough fun that users will want to try it over and over again.
The USB charging works well but children should be reminded not to let the power drain and then leave it uncharged. After doing so for an extended period of time (perhaps a week or two) I plugged it into a USB port. Instead of starting up in a few seconds to under a minute, it took a few minutes. After the initial panic of seeing a blank screen for longer than expected, I was glad to see it come through. When it came up, the time needed to be reset, but it did not lose saved video data.
The array of features requires a multitude of buttons but is well thought out. It should be no problem for a pre-teen who is accustomed to playing video games, and will not leave a child asking you to read the instructions to figure it out.
The educational value comes partly from the product itself but can come much more from learning about the technology from a parent as the features are being used.
There are a variety of "spy gear" products on the market these days, and this one did not disappoint. I have not tried the company's other products but would feel comfortable doing so after using this one.
A nice thing about the watch is that it's even more fun when others are around to share the experience. That even includes parents, and having the opportunity to spend quality time with your child can be the best fun of all, especially when it's at their urging. The recommended age range is from 8-15 years. I think it's realistic to expect an eight year old to have a lot of fun with this, but with more hand holding. A pre-teen should be able to hit the ground running, and interest will probably wane for those aged 15 or above. It's important to know your child's needs and interests especially at the ends of the age range, and it could frustrate a child younger than eight.
One caveat, which is not the fault of the product itself, is that this sort of toy will start off being far more fun than many others, but is not necessarily something that will become an everyday play thing. It's a bit bulky to wear on the wrist regularly, and younger children, especially boys, do not routinely wear watches. But if your child feels like wearing this while not actively playing with it, and has a peer network with friends who keep asking about it, your child may become the envy of others.

Fun, but a bit risky. Nov 04, 2010 The first one of these I bought was amazingly fun, I was nervous because of the price, (40$ in most toy stores.) But I was proved wrong. It wasn't fully charged in the store, and I had lost the USB dongle, and it really needed a charge, so I used a regular camera charger. It said that it was plugged in, but it kept blinking between, "Charged" and "Charging". It turns out it wasn't charging at all. I thought it was over, $40 down the drain, but luckily, toys r us accepted the toy and let us pick another, which works fine. I don't know if it was the watch or the connector, but if you're positive your local toy store won't even accept a defective toy, I would not buy it. But on the fun side, it earns a very high score, out of 100% I would give it a worthy 90%.The features are nice, including an entertaining mock lie detector, a voice changer and a mock bug detector. It has fun games including a shooting and punching game. The videos, pictures and audio are all very good quality, and it comes with an optional 3D spy card, which is supposed to unlock hidden apps on your watch, though I could not figure it out. Finally, there is a spynet website where you can complete optional missions, all entertainment purposes. This product by Jakks Pacific is worth looking into.

Don't worry about 'too much technology' Oct 25, 2010
By Patrick W. Crabtree

I have to confess that, while I was pretty much clueless on how to get this little device up and running, my young nephew [14] had the watch/video/etc. functioning at full capacity in just a few minutes.
It's really a hoot, lots of fun for kids who remain wholly engrossed with it... a really nice gift if your thinking about something electronic.
Highly recommended.
