5So... why four bits?  Aug 04, 2008 By JimBob
This is a nice compact kit that I hope I never need... but as the Boy Scouts say .... "Be Prepared"!

Like others here I was confused by the two apparently "extra" tools; I had expected only a cleaner & a plug inserter. I shot the company an e-mail and got this prompt reply:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. The Needle that is open at the very top of the eye - to be used per the directions on auto tires.
2. The Needle that is open along the side of the eye - to be used with ATV tires as per the directions (this type of needle would get caught on the steel belts of an automotive tire, and works much better with an ATV type tire.)
3. The Needle that is completely closed is to be used like the #1 needle able, BUT once the needle is strung, it would be inserted ALL the way into the tire and pulled out half way; then cut off. (Same basic function, just really a matter of preference)
We included all three of these so that the option that you are familiar with and/or most comfortable with are available.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So I am only going to keep the regular inserter and the rasp with the kit which I think will leave room in the handle for all the gear with no left-overs (I'm traveling right now so am not 100% sure on that but think it should work).

4Economical, works great ...  Oct 06, 2008 By Feroz Alloo
I used this plug in my rear tire of Ducati Supersport. First I wasn't sure if it'll work and as other users suggested that the enclosed instruction is poor. You have to do the guess work on the tool to use for inserting the plug, I had no luck with open eye, be careful in using that because it may damage the tire surface around the reamed area of the tire...I quickly moved to close eye for inserting the plug.

I like it because the price is very reasonable, compared to others I've researched on the internet...similar products cost $25+. I bought 3 of them, two for my other colleagues...buying in 3+ will save you on shipping at Amazon, so make sure you check with others before placing the order to save on shipping.

I have more than 100 miles on the plugged tire, and is more than 3 weeks now...the plug is still holding up. I must've lost about 4 psi of air since I plugged it but I guess that is normal for air to leak in 3 weeks.

Other thoughts: I was lucky this time because I plugged it in my garage so I was able to use my cycle pump, if the flat has to be fixed on the road then make sure you also carry some sort of portable hand pump (or nitrogen) so you can reach the nearest gas station with limited air in the tire.

Update 091409: After using this plug for one year, I want to let the readers know that that the tire has more than 2k miles on it since it was plugged. From time to time, I worry and think about replacing the tire but looks like the plug is holding up and there is no leakage in the tire.

4Great value for the money  Mar 04, 2009 By Michael C. Bishop
I like this tool even though it doesn't fit my needs exactly. As others have mentioned, the two extra tools are confusing because they are not mentioned in the instructions. However, once you know their use then you realize that Slime actually went above expectations and is providing a very nice tool.

For the record, the needle with the open side is for non-steel belted tires like ATV and lawnmower. The other two are for car tires and is a matter of preference which one you use. Pick the needle that you like best, ditch the rest and it makes plenty of room to fit the plugs inside the handle. I suggest putting them in either a small baggy or some Saran Wrap to prevent a sticky mess.

My one real complaint is that the needles and reamer are a tad bit too long on mine to let the lid close completely. I used a grinder to take 1/8" off the end (the end that fits into the handle) and it works perfectly. It wasn't absolutely necessary, but it makes the lid fit a lot better.

Now, for my nit picks. Having bought it sight-unseen, I was hoping for a bit of a smaller tool. I want to carry this on my motorcycle and the size of gear really makes a difference. The handle could be a bit more compact, and for my purposes I wish the tools fit like a normal screwdriver instead of the T-handle. I don't fault them for either of these, just letting you know that it is a bit larger than I expected.

Overall, it is a very solid product that will do it's job perfectly. Most of the alternatives I've seen at a similar price are much lower quality.

5Made me go back on the road  Sep 03, 2008 By Jorge Anturi "JORGE ANTURI"
i used to race superbikes... once, i got a puncture, and got flat...
i was pretty worried 'cause i was far away from home... one of the guys walked towards me smiling.. and told me.. well dude.. get ready to stay here for a couple of hours... and i was like,,, "why the ... is he smiling"... and then told me that he was joking and told me that he got one of this kits... and repaired the tire in a few minutes.. then i went to a gas station... refilled the tire.. and the trip continued...
i had not used yet the one that i just bought but i have it on the mini-trunk of the bike... and i know that it works.....
highly recommended...

5Excellent . Been using them for years  Apr 12, 2010 By Marcus Killion
These tar strips are great. I have used them for many years. Just pull out the nail or whatever gave you the flat put a tar strip in the insertion tool put on a little rubber cement and push it in the hole . Twist it and pull out the tool . lasts for years . No leaking .
I am a pro truck driver and I use them on my truck . I run in a lot of places that are full of nails and screws and use these at least once a week or more .

Pros: works fantastic. Seals permanently .

cons: there are none .
