Improved TXFR speeds are great... Feb 22, 2011
By DrFoster ...IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING with USB 3.0 and how to set up your computer ENTIRELY to take advantage of this feature. If you don't save your $20.00, because you won't see a difference.
I measured a improvement on a 10GB file transfer (with the factory Seagate USB 2.0 cord) at 24 minutes WRITE time (to the drive), dropping to just over 4 minutes with the new adapter. READ speeds (from the drive) took that 10GB file just hardly different than USB 3.0: 3 minutes vs. 4 minutes.
The nice thing about this setup is that in the future, this cable supports many other types of 2.5" drives that could read or write faster than what we have now. If future compatibility is your kick, then it is worth the $20.00.
Yes, eSATA is still faster than USB 3.0 on paper, but not for long. The internal components of computers are going to catch up fast to expand and meet USB 3.0's ability. My new 2011 Alienware has all-in-one-combined 3.0 / eSATA ports - I have not seen this on past laptops - so we may be on the cusp of the computer age taking another leap in data transfer speeds.
It really does matter if you know where your computer data stream bottlenecks at and how to use USB 3.0 properly; a lot of computers can actually NEVER move your data as fast as USB 3.0 (the computer is SLOWER THAN THE CABLE / KIT / ADAPTER), so why would you "buy a Ferrari to drive in rush-hour traffic"? (just for example)
5/5 Stars. For me, with the amount of data I move on a daily basis and with the high-end computers I use, USB 3.0 and the future opportunity is welcomed!

Best thing ever. Jun 16, 2011

I work on a lot of computers, often you have to pull a hard drive from a laptop, this thing attaches to any laptop hard drive and makes it USB 3.0 DOn't be fooled, this is not just for Seagate drives, this one is attached to a WD Scorpion Blue 500GB right now. Way to go Seagate.

Works with all 2.5" SATA drives =) Sep 19, 2011
By Jon I purchased this connector as a gamble - I wanted an easy way to access all the different 2.5" drives I have accumulated over recent years. I looked at the pictures closely and the connection appeared to be just a standard SATA connection, so I ordered it and waited. I am pleased to say it works a charm - I just plug it directly into a naked 2.5" SATA hard drive and connect the usb plug to my computer and it is instantly recogised - result! So yes, you can use this connector with any drive of this type - it doesn't need to be a Seagate one.

Go GoFlex! Sep 12, 2011
By RoyBlaze Goflex has become my external drive of choice. You can now chose between USB2.0, USB3.0 or eSata with the same drive. This is a great way to keep a drive from becoming obselete. I ordered 2 more USB 2.0 Goflexes and 1 more 3.0 upgrade cable for my various computers. I have had no problems at all and love the fact that 3.0 is so much faster, though seriously I think eSata is going to be the interface of choice in the future. Not a problem I will just get an eSata upgrade cable and be all set. If your scratching your head on which way to upgrade, GO GoFlex! NOTE: This is for the portable drives only!

Great piece of hardware. Apr 26, 2011
By JHafer This little beauty is just the right size and capacity for me. I did buy a case to protect it for around $20.00 also. I would recommend buying one. The unit is a dust and fingerprint magnet, but that's not an issue for me.
