We have two Petmate Water Fountains and change the filters out monthly. They are hard to find in the local stores so it is nice to buy a 6 pack on Amamzon. They do the job well but I still like the old style filters better. I hope they bring those back soon.

I change fountain filter every month. I have not had any problem with the cats using the fountain or any pump problems.

After more than 5 years of operation, our Petmate pump stopped. Actually the electrical cord at the pump became cracked and eventually shorted out. The new pump is improved. The intake has moved from the bottom of the pump where sediment can be picked up to the side facing the water bowl. The grommet on the electrical cord slides on the cord which enables you to adjust the length to not be strained. It might just be the age of the old pump but the new pump is much more quiet.

Note to owners: Debris gets into the water system most of which is filtered by the filter but overtime some debris will get into the pump intake screen. Our regime has been to clean the pump intake screen at least once a week. However when the pump failed we discovered that the intake screen is removable and that the pump impeller was full of crud. The user manual probably describes this but even now, I have not read it.

There are six filters per pack. They seem to be good quality and I find they last about a month each for me. I still have to clean the fountain daily to prevent a buildup on the sides of the fountain. Best price I've seen for these.
