great way to keep a food-oriented cat entertained - 2 dollars cheaper at link below Sep 28, 2009
By David G. Latour Once our kitty figured this one out, it would keep him happily entertained for 20-30 minutes. Dispensing is affected by the type of cat kibble put inside - small round pellets work best. Larger or "X" shaped pellets will tend to clog in the opening. [...]

Not really my cat's thing Nov 29, 2009
By L. Michaels She likes strings, but I thought I'd give 'em a try. I put dry cat food in one, but first I gave her one filled with catnip. She liked the catnip one for a minute, but she's not interested in the food one. We've tried, believe me! I think that a kitten would get it, but my 9 year old fat cat just looks at like, "You roll it, I'll pick up what it drops...."
As for the design, a screw mechanism on the inside of the ball would help: to OPEN, squeeze at just the right spot along the seam of the the 2 halves. To close is a bit harder, especially when full of kibble/catnip: squeeze together HARD....I imagine you have to get it in just the right spot to close as you do to open. There are little teeth along the inside rim of one half that after a few minutes of trying to get it back together, look like they'll be snapping off pretty soon. But my cat isn't interested anyway, so I may give them to the Goodwill or something. My cat is too lazy and not inspired by this, but I'm sure there are rambunctious cats out there that would like these.

Seemed like a good idea, but my cats are not interested Jan 24, 2010
By meandersons I thought this would be a fun toy for my two cats. They are ten months old, and they love to bat their toys around and chase them. I was thinking they would be intrigued by the way the toy dispenses treats, since they both love their treats and will ordinarily go to great lengths to get them. Unfortunately, these are made of hard plastic, so there is no way the cats can pick them up and carry them, which they do with most of their toys. The toy doesn't appeal to them, no matter how much I try to get them involved. They will eat the treats that fall out when I roll the ball, but they won't chase the ball or bat it around on their own. These cats both love their toys, but I've tried everything with this one, including placing catnip inside, and they are not interested. The toy itself is not easy to open and requires a screwdriver, and it is difficult to snap shut, as well.

By Flower Power to open these hard plastic balls since they need to be pried open to fill with treats. they are made of such hard plastic that my cats wouldn't even touch them. i am returning them.

Too difficult to open. Mar 26, 2011

These definitely work as intend, but I actually had to get a screwdriver and hammer to get them open. I'm completely unable to open them with just my hands, without the risk of pulling off my entire fingernail. Also, since the split the ball in half when you get it open, at best you can fill the ball halfway.
I highly recommend instead buying the comparably priced PetSafe SlimCat Food Distributor Ball, which works just as well and is very simple to open. Additionally, since you just open a little cap on the top of the ball, you can fully fill it up.
