Great rroduct but save $ by buying immediate release tablets Dec 05, 2005
By IndyDon I have used extended release guaifenesin (the active drug in Mucinex) for many years to help with sinus drainage and chronic bronchitis. It really works to clear out the lungs and my MD tells me it helps reduce sinus drainage as well. I stocked up on the prescription form of guaifenesin just before the FDA pulled all extended release guaifenesin from the market except for Mucinex. The reason for this action was somewhat esoteric and it allowed Mucinex to have a monopoly on the extended release form. Well, my horde of prescription guaifenesin finally ran out and I started using Mucinex. It works that same as the old prescription drugs because it is the same thing (they are both extended release guaifenesin). But, Mucinex is very expensive. So, I switched to immediate relase guaifenesin and found that it works just as well at a significant cost savings. The only thing is that you will have to take more immediate release tablets to equal a 12-hour extended release tablet. If you can't let go of the Mucinex, consider taking the immediate release during the day and Mucinex at night. You will save a lot of money. Mucinex is the only extended release tablet on the market. So, if it is guaifenesin and it is not Mucinex then it is an immediate release tablet. Check the price differences.

Life saver!! Am I am not kidding Dec 30, 2005
By Deborah MacGillivray
"Author,"
I have problems with so many of the infection fighting meds on the market. They cause bad side effects, and often do not do what they should. This last go around over $1000 in medications and each round made the problem WORSE.
I took two of these tables and they stopped on an oncoming attack of bronchitis. But to my surprise they knocked out a sinuses infection that had been dragging on for two months.
I could have save $1000 if I have these from the start.
Amazing stuff.

Very effective, though expensive expectorant... Jan 04, 2007
By Martin Vidnovic ...which is why I give it 3, not 5 stars. It used to be called Humibid (Nathan Lane thanked it in one of his Tony Award acceptance speaches), was obtained by prescription, and if you had a prescription drug program, you could get about 120 six hundred mg. pills for $10.00. The active ingredient is Guaifenisin, and it is quite an effective expectorant, especially if you take the maximum dose of 1200 mg., twice daily.
I suppose drug companies make more money by selling it over the counter, which is why they do it, and Amazon is the best price I found (about $5.00 cheaper than CVS),so that's just over 4 times as expensive as the 'good old Humibid days'. There are cheaper generic brands which come in 400 mg. pills, but so far the ones I've tried produce an uncomfortable 'flushing' affect...but that's just me. Thanks, Martin Vidnovic

Guifenesin for Fibromyalgia Oct 27, 2004
By 3bells After using guifenesin for almost a year and a half, my fibromyalgia symptoms are amazingly improved. But you definitely need to follow the protocol correctly or you will be wasting your money. You need the book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia Fatigue" because it gives the necessary directions.
Links are not allowed by Amazon in reviews, but if you do a google search for Dr. St Amand's "fibromyalgia treatment center", you will find all the information you need along with a support group that is crowded with people who are finding help using guifeneson.
I use the Extended-Release because it is working and I don't want to lose time trying the other kinds, but if you are just beginning, a lot of people are being helped by the fast acting guifeneson.
As for me, I will buy guaifenesin and do without other things in order to continue getting my life back from this life sapping condition!

There ARE other options! May 22, 2004 I have been taking 1200 mg. of Guaifenesin daily to control asthma for ten years. For those of us without medical insurance, the availability of Guaifenesin OTC has been a Godsend. When I did have insurance I was able to obtain it cheaply with a small co-pay. Not so now that I pay for all doctor's appointments and prescriptions out of pocket.Adams Labs is NOT the only source for generic Guaifenesin. They have a patent on their "time release" formulation ONLY, not on the drug itself. A google search for "Guaifenesin" will yield many Online sources in a myriad of strengths, from 200 to 600mg tablets, at a fraction of the cost of Musinex. I'm taking two 400mg tablets of a "fast acting" OTC generic Guaifenesen 3 times daily and found this works just as well as Musinex at a cost of 24.00 for a 30 day supply. If you want Musinex, however, Amazon's price can't be beat. Especially if you order 2 and get free shipping.
