| | Description | Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 is a supreme performance, synthetic, multi-purpose, SAE 75W-90 automotive gear lubricant designed to meet the highest level of performance requirements of modern passenger vehicles in all types of operating conditions, including limited slip applications, as well as delivering outstanding power transfer performance. Compared to conventional hypoid gear lubricants, Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 performs exceptionally well over a wide range of temperatures. It achieves this through a unique proprietary formulation that delivers optimized viscosity as a function of temperature properties together with the highest level of inherent formulation stability and protects against thermal and oxidative degradation, wear and corrosion, and viscosity loss associated with premature shearing. It also can be used in extended service and for aiding in fuel economy performance. It contains special friction modifiers designed for limited slip-type differentials. In most applications, the addition of special LS (limited slip) additives is not required. For axles requiring the highest level of limited-slip performance, OEM specific LS additives can be added to this fluid. It combines wax-free synthesized hydrocarbon base oils and a specially designed extreme-pressure, limited-slip, sulfur-phosphorous additive system to provide a significantly higher level of performance in rear axles and differentials versus conventional fluids. Greater film strength at higher operating temperatures, reduced fluid friction and low-temperature application down to -50 degree celsius provides significant advantages versus conventional mineral oil formulations. It reduces wear and spalling under the high speed, high torque and high horsepower conditions in competitive racing and high performance automobiles. | |

Amazing stuff Jan 19, 2011
By J. Nicholson Replaces the factory gear oil for the differential that comes with the suspension package on the 2006 Mazda MX-5.
I could swear that this bottle contains pure sweet cream butter because it's a major difference between this and the standard "maintenence free" gear oil I used to have in my diff. My differential chatters less and (now I may be hallucinating) but I think the car even feels more agile! This stuff is heaven sent.

Best manual transmission gear oil May 27, 2011
By A. M. Shipley
"mrmopar5287"
I bought this Mobil 1 gear oil to replace the factory fill gear oil in my Hyundai Accent. I had a local lube shop do the job as they charged only $25 to drain & fill and dispose of the used gear oil.
After 30,000 miles my Hyundai Accent is pretty well broken in. I am used to how the car operates. All I can say is that there was an immediate change in the shifting of the manual transmission. Shifts into Reverse and 1st gear from a standstill used to be slightly "notchy" when being pushed into position. With Mobil 1 gear oil they were immediately more smooth. The factory fill gear oil was still a nice golden color without water or other contaminants, but I had the change done at the 30,000 mile interval. I look forward to seeing what gains in fuel economy I might get with a lighter weight oil from what came in the gearbox from the factory.
One thing to point out: this gear oil has a GL-5 rating instead of the older (and virtually obsolete) GL-4 specification. The GL-5 gear oils come with more Extreme Pressure additives that have the potential to corrode yellow metals like copper, brass, or bronze. If you have an older transmission that you know for certain contains brass parts such as synchronizers then you might want to track down an auto parts store that still sells conventional GL-4 oils. This GL-5 oil contains anti-corrosion additives to avoid this problem, and most modern cars don't have yellow metal parts in the manual transmissions, so this shouldn't be a problem. My car calls for GL-4 and I don't hesitate to use this GL-5 oil in it.

Seems like the right stuff. Dec 05, 2011
By Forrest Used this oil for the break-in transaxle oil change on my 2012 Porsche Boxster S at about 1400 miles. Car now has 7100 miles and is running like a Swiss watch. I have the sport shifter, and Porsche will tell you that the transmission can be hard to shift when cold, but I'm finding that not to be the case. Very happy with this purchase.
Gear Lube Review Jan 15, 2012
By Justin Don't get me wrong. Mobil does make a fine product and have been using it for years. I have a 2003 VW Jetta and changed out the oil in the manual transmission and noticed right away how much harder it was to shift. I have a feeling it might be due to the friction modifier in the oil? I ended up changing it again with a different brand of oil and back to good shifting again. I just feel that this product just didnt suit the vehicle? Might be better in a differential on maybe a truck or suv application?
Mobil 1 Gear Oil 75W-90 Oct 26, 2011
By James A. Ashford I have used this oil in numerous gear boxes requiring a 75W-90 gear oil and found it works very well. It seems to rate very high in all reviews I have read. I can't say it is the best, because I have not tried or compared many other oils, but in my opinion I believe it is one of the better oils and you won't go wrong using it.
