Contains enhanced interface and a more substantive dictionar Oct 28, 2004
By Merrifield Winters Microsoft Works provides a workable word processor The new calendar applet is much easier to use and will import your old addresses if you have the 7.0 version. Works can perform very easily most of the major tasks that Word provides such as footnoting, page numbering, typesetting of longer documents.
In contrast to the products offered by Sun Micro, the Works CD includes multitudes of useful clipart and there is a link in the Help menu to help you download multitudes more. The dictionary links to Encarta Encyclopedia. The one thing I didn't like so much was still the underdeveloped nature of the spreadsheet. It is more suited to home-related tasks and not to linear algegebraic functions. Still, it was nice to be able to edit excel 2003 documents and save them in a usable format for work.

Word Sep 23, 2006

the only reason i bought this was because i didn't have microsoft word and i wanted it but the problem is trying to find it without having to buy the entire office program of works. i wish they would just sell it by itself. so instead of the Word program you get a word processor that only has a few small differences with the actual Word program like it is missing a built in Thesaraus. there are a few other small differences but the program is completely compatible with the Word program. you can save and edit Word documents. that was all i really wanted to begin with. so if you want a cheeper way to get Microsoft Word or something really similar to it, this is the way to go.

Great combination. Jul 12, 2006
By Mojo The most "powerful" software is of little use if it costs too much or takes too much effort. Works is a great combination of features, price, and user-friendliness.
OpenOffice is a free download, and it is good, but the same effort it takes to learn and use half its capabilities can put all Works' tools at your disposal. Even MS Office is not quite as automated or easy as Works, and it costs many times more.
I have a family member who uses Works to make databases, spreadsheets, and reports that I have a hard time replicating with MS Office. I supposedly have the more advanced software, but she gets more work done...

Not a bad product but there are better for product for free Sep 23, 2006
By Pingk123 I have been using Works for years as I had used Microsoft Office but I never used anything more than Works offered for a tenth of the price. The new version 8 is a good step up until I tried Sun Open Office which is free. This product is a full blown office suite and it is free. I doubt this will get posted but try both work and open office and see yourself
