Don't Expect Visio Pro 2010 to Help You Build Software Apr 28, 2011
By James E Healy I used previous versions of Visio Pro to build ER diagrams and create databases. It was a good tool. However, the 2010 version abandons any attempt to be useful in actual software development. You cannot generate databases from this product, as you can for others. If you just want flowcharts, stick with the standard version. If you want this for other functions, read other reviews. But if you want to use Visio as part of serious software development, do yourself a favor and don't try. Use Erwin instead.

No better than PowerPoint for flow charts and organizational diagrams Jun 11, 2011
By JP Gaubier For a program with this price tag, I expect a lot more refinement in functionality. Flowcharts are no easier to create in Visio than in PowerPoint. Arrows and flows behave unpredictably and do not snap properly--worse, flow chart arrows don't stay straight, meaning that moving or resizing an element in your flowchart or org chart often requires finessing all connectors back into straight lines---this is truly no better than PowerPoint.

Absolutely Aweful Feb 01, 2012
By StudentInCali123 I've been using Visio for at least 10 years (before it was purchased by Microsoft) and it's a tool that I use every single day. My diagrams are large, complex, and utilize some of the more advanced features of Visio.
That being said, the new 2010 user interface is completely unintuitive. Microsoft seems to change-up the UI with every release, and all of the features and functions I use I now have to hunt around for. Overall, I find myself fumbling with this product instead of focusing on design. I'm sorely disappointed with this overpriced, unnecessarily complex application. When the time comes to upgrade to Visio 2013 (or whatever the next release is) I will absolutely be looking at alternatives.
Viso Pro on a downward trend May 26, 2012
By J. Beck With each new release, Visio Pro gets worse and worse. Functions that used to work no longer do. The new ribbon interface is worthless eye candy - does anybody at Microsoft actually use this product?
I just checked, and I've got 263 .vsd Visio files, dating back to 2000, and several with dozens of pages and hundreds of external links. I use it probably 5-10 hours/week and fully 25% of that time is wasted on GUI hurdles that have gotten worse over the years.
Google for "setting defaults in Visio 2010" to see a litany of complaints and obscure workarounds to do something that used to be simple.
Alas, there is no viable alternative I've found yet, and will continue to use this *@#*& that I would prefer to give zero stars to.
I use this product every day! Mar 22, 2012
By Robert C. Boyer We regularly use VISIO for making engineering drawings and love the ability to use and make stencils and layers! I gave this product four stars (and not five) because it is not available for MAC--only PC! C'mon, the world is trending toward Mac, let's make a MAC version!
