5Ignore negative (and inaccurate) comments!  Mar 15, 2012 By Chris
Please note that the negative comments for this product are not accurate.

This purchase DOES INCLUDE a full download of Microsoft Office 2010 as well as a single key code to use with the product. Something may have changed since the inaccurate comments were made, but the software CAN be downloaded directly from amazon.com immediately after purchase.

3Cannot be upgraded, so be careful!  May 20, 2012 By Brian Foreman
This software is the same quality software we all expect from Microsoft and I am certain you'll be pleased with it--but you need to be very careful about making sure what you're buying before you buy it, because there is no longer an upgrade option between Office 2010 versions if you change your mind later:

I purchased this product for my brother, who did not need Outlook. Once installed, however, I realized that the software labels itself "Not for commercial use"--meaning, it's not licensed for use in a business, and this was going to be for use in an office.

This was clearly my fault: I was only looking at the included products, and not thinking about the license terms. No matter; I figured I would simply upgrade him to "Home and Business"--only to find that Microsoft's latest upgrade strategy is...well, there isn't one. According to Microsoft, this keeps things simpler for consumers, because apparently we were having trouble understanding the difference between "upgrade" and "full" versions. So you just have to buy the higher-level version at full price.

I don't really mind that Microsoft has elected to go to this approach, but because their past software DID allow upgrades, I think there are going to be a lot of customers that get surprised by this approach. Sure, it's the customer's fault, but it's still bad PR. For no other reason than that, I feel Microsoft should do a little more "are you sure?" work during the installation phase of their Office suites, while there's still an opportunity to be sure the version the customer is installing is really the appropriate one for their needs.

UPDATE: When I originally realized my mistake, I emailed Amazon asking them if I could return the software, but later, after re-reading the license terms, I realized there was going to be no way they could possibly do that. So, I just purchased the Home and Business version and considered it a $90 lesson. After writing this review to warn others, however, I was SHOCKED AND STUNNED to find an email in my inbox explaining that my $90 purchase of the Home and Student version had been cheerfully refunded, no questions, no hassles, just "done."

This is nearly unbelievable; I didn't deserve a refund, but Amazon gave me one anyway. Whatever flaw there may be in the Microsoft licensing strategy, it is more than made up for by Amazon customer service. Wow. I will never buy software anywhere else after this...

5Works Fine for me.  Apr 02, 2012 By GamePlayer "PCUSER"
Reading some of these reviews almost made me not buy this.

One caveat: You can not use this software for commercial purposes, but that is OK with me.

I just finished building a high performance WIN 7 PC and needed a word processor and a spreadsheet program and I didn't want to spend a lot of money for the programs. Since I have digitally downloaded a few games from Amazon before I decided, what the heck, I will give it a shot. Not one problem. Everything went smoothly. I have a pretty good Comcast Internet connection so the download was quite fast. This was all good since I am experimenting with the use of a new 256GB 6g SSD as my operating system - boot drive. When they say the SSD beats out a traditional hard drive they certainly are kidding. Question is: how long will the fast SSD work.

I have been fooling around with changing hardware and software on all types of PCs since the middle 90's. I can understand how there are conditions where trying to download and install this type of offer can have problems. However, due to the funny nature of Windows PCs I personally would not just make a blanket statement that no one should do this. Also, I did have the actual program software download on to my PC. I would, apparently, just use the Amazon installer if I needed to reinstall it over again. I am from the "old school" of working with PCs and I probably will never get used to the new digital distribution and so-called "Cloud" (fancy name for a server if I ever heard one) business models, but they seem to be an improvement over the "old" ways for sure.

Also, don't lose the program key.
