The advanced design reduces required maintenance to simple, common-sense procedures. For above-ground pools requiring self-priming action this pump features a heavy-duty motor. Made of the high-strength PermaGlass XL material this pump has a clear cover to let you see when basket needs cleaning. An extra-large debris basket (118-cubic-inches) keeps pool maintenance to a minimum by extending time between cleanings. Rigid construction with load extender ribbing ensures free-flowing operation for heavy debris loads. The pump also offers 100-percent drip proof, heat-resistant double-sized seal for long motor life. It features a self-priming 1-1/2 inch intake and discharge, and a 6-foot power cord (120-volt). Hayward PowerFlo LX has self-lubricating motor bearings and shaft seals. No lubrication is necessary. The 60-cycle single-phase motor is rated for 1-1/2-horsepower (115-volts) and 20-amp circuit breakers. The pump motor is equipped with automatic thermal overload protection. The thermal overload will shut the motor off under abnormal conditions before damage to motor occurs. The motor will auto-restart when safer heat level is reached. For storage and winterizing your pump is important. Pump and motor must be protected from freezing. Shut off all electric power. Disconnect cord/electrical connections and plumbing connections. Had a 2 1/2 horse power pump from Rec. Warehouse would only put out 10-12 psi and was very noise. Installed this Hayward SP1580X15 Power-Flo LX Series Pump 1-1/2 Horse Power. Putting out 15psi and very little noise from pump. Only draw back is it only has one speed HIGH. Getting ready to open pool up next week. Time will tell how well it works. I believe for the money you can not beat it, Rec. Warehouse wanted over $300. The pressure coming out of the return hose is great. Hope this helps you!

Very good name brand pump and motor. Lower price than what we found at pool supply stores in town. Easy hook up, just hook hoses and plug it in and go. Free shipping and received it in two days. Would definitely purchase again.

Best cheap pool pump you can buy Jun 24, 2010

I bought this through Amazon, although the fulfillment was through "In the Swim". It was delivered the next day with FREE shipping. It's not a two speed, so there is no "silent" 24 hour mode, but it pumps a lot of water through your filter of choice and it's not particularly loud when doing it. When you are splashing around in the pool, you can barely hear it and even when just floating around, it is easily tuned out.
To make it more useful since this model doesn't come with a timer, pair it with a heavy duty out door timer like the Intermatic HB31R All Weather Outdoor Timer, which can be found here for about $15. Don't buy a timer that is electronic, because they are more expensive and if the power disconnects, the on/off settings will reset when the power is restored. BTW, locally this same pump costs about $250-300, so it's a great deal, especially with the quick free shipping!

At the end of the season my old Hayward pump of 15 years just stopped working. I knew after 15 years of working that it was on borrowed time so it came as no surprise when it just stopped! I was so happy with the Hayward brand that I knew I wanted to purchase that brand again. I started to price them at local pool stores. They were priced at $309 and $299. Then I found another brand at another pool store for :$199 but I really didn't want to try a new brand that I had never heard of before. So I went online to read some reviews about this new brand. When I did a google search I found the exact same Hayward pump that I really wanted on Amazon com and it was only $139 with no shipping cost!s I was really worried that there was going to be a reason that this was so much less. But it was delivered in less than a week and was exactly the same as the one that I had bought 15 years ago! If I can get even 10 years out of this new pump I will be very happy!!

This pump has plenty of power attached to a sand filter for my 13,000 gallon above ground pool.Only problem is it has no on-off switch and you have to plug and unplug it to turn it on and off. The top comes off easily for cleaning the filter basket. Was simple to install to my filtering system. Durability - I run it nearly every other day for 3-4 hours and no problems so far- 4 months.
July 23,2011 - It is now 1 year later and my pump is still running strong. I would definitely recommend this pump.
