Description

Finish Line DRY Lube made with Teflon fluoropolymer. The industry’s original “dry” lubricant. Finish Line DRY Lube goes on wet, but then sets up in a dry, ‘paste-like’ film so it will not attract or absorb grit and grime. Teflon fluoropolymer and specialized synthetic oils run silky smooth and provide excellent durability. Perfect for on or off-road riding – especially in dry, dirty, dusty conditions, while still providing adequate wet weather performance. Holds up to extreme pressures and resists water wash-off. A very versatile all-weather chain lubricant. Also, use on derailleurs, brake and shifter pivots. Features superior penetration qualities. Finish Line DRY Lube provides incredible drivetrain efficiency without attracting an excessive amount of contaminants – our most popular, best selling, most versatile lubricant.

5The one all purpose, all season bike lube--plus a bit of how to apply lube to your drivechain.  Aug 01, 2007 By John P. Thiel "John T."
I've tried wax based lubes, wet, dry, winter, you name it, and always end up coming back to teflon dry lube--specifically this one.

The only other lube I've tried that I would maybe use again is Cross-Country lube of the same brand, and only for really harsh weather conditions, because it stays on the chain a lot longer in a major downpour--so I don't have to relube a wet chain or suffer the fact that other lubes will wash out. Even in those circumstances though, the teflon lube holds up rather well.

Winter lubes don't thicken as easily at low temperatures, but teflon doesn't get the least bit sticky anyway.

Totally clean, and it does a nice job of flushing grime out of the individual links when applied.

To apply this lube most of the time, shift your chain to the largest chainring in the front and smallest cog in the back, run your chain through a rag to get the bulk of the grit and grime off (or use Lysol kitchen degreaser wet wipes), then apply one drop per link--starting and ending at the 'end pin' which is the one that looks different from the rest.

I typically don't lube the cogs and don't recommend anyone do so. It's a giant waste and it overlubes the drivechain. Instead, apply one drop to each link, then run the bike through all its gears so it gets a touch of lube on each tooth, just to prevent rusting and excess wear.

If you use the spray on version of this or any lube, apply, wait 20 minutes, then wipe off the excess by running the chain through a rag.

I typically apply lube every 100 kilometers (or 62 miles). I don't do it during rides, just try to remember to do it sometime in the proximity of that distance.

4Pretty Decent Lube  May 21, 2011 By Logan Vonseggern
So as soon as I got this I cleaned my chain and applied one drop at every link, then I let it dry and went for a ride. Really great for the dusty singletrack I was going down. On the way back I got caught in a huge downpour. At that point I was remembering the one review that talked about how quickly the rain will destroy this lube. I rode two miles in some really heavy rain to get back. By the time I got home I could tell it had worn off some, but nothing near as catastrophic as the other review. No problem with brakes.

So I have some confidence as far as riding through rain with this stuff for a relatively short amount of time (10 miles would have been an issue). I mostly ride dusty singletrack though. Using a wet lube that would hold up in the rain would result in me having to clean the chain after every ride due to dust build up. So even if I have to clean the chain and re-apply after every big downpour, this lube still saves me a ton of cleaning. I definitely wouldn't call this lube ready for "All riding conditions" as the bottle says though, so minus a star for that.

2Attracts road grit  Aug 12, 2010 By Kevin McMurtrie
This lube resembles Teflon gels sold at hardware stores but with a solvent to improve application. It starts out as a thin liquid then dries to a paste that remains slippery under high pressure. As others have mentioned, it is not very water resistant. It cleans off the bicycle, my hands, and my clothing without difficulty.

I've tried this on a few summer rides and it attracts road grit very quickly. It doesn't matter whether I leave it a little wet or spend several minutes drying the chain with a rag. Within 10 miles the links are starting to click and grind. At 60 miles the chain is dropping sticky little tar balls and links are occasionally sticking. The chain has to be cleaned before it's back to normal; reapplication doesn't fix it.

I don't know why this product is working for others but not for me. My chain doesn't have a lot of miles on it but I may retest with a new chain anyways to see if it makes a difference.

1Avoid this lube  May 14, 2009 By J. Roth
Avoid this lube if there is any chance of rain. Even though the label indicates this lube is for wet and dry conditions, the bike will be a greasy black graphite mess if you get caught in a rain shower. I recently was caught in a brief rain shower on my road bike. The water causes the lube to get slung off the chain and onto anything in its path including rear wheel, brakes, frame, seat and the back of your jersey. Brakes stopped working and had to disassemble and clean the bike after this ride. After the cleaning, I switched to Pro Gold Prolink lube. This stuff is the best lube I have used.

5Works well, stops my chain problems for a while  Apr 03, 2010 By CtrlAltDlt
I'm a newbie when it comes to bike maintenance. I recently bought a decent bike and was determined to take care of it. The bike had some shifting issues and the chain would slip every few rotations. The chain itself had a few joints that were stuck and causing the slips. By manually flexing them and just adding this lube (before I had a chain tool) I managed to stop the chain problems and have a nice smooth ride. After a few rides through heavy rain the chain started slipping again. A full cleaning and reapplication of this lube and the chain has performed well for a few weeks now even with the bad chain.

No noticeable build-up of dirt etc. on the chain yet after 100 or so miles, although when I did the initial cleaning I notice theres a lot of black stuff coming off the chain, likely residue of the teflon and metal but I can't be sure. I wipe off the excess lube after I'm done applying this so the bike stays fairly clean.

So far, I have no complaints about this product. It does what its meant for. I'm going to take care of this bike and it should serve me well for a long time.
