| | Description | The Dremel 1-1/2-Inch EZ Lock Rotary Tool Cut-Off Wheels make it easy to cut through metal. These reinforced cut-off wheels last up to two times longer than typical fiberglass wheels. These wheels can be used for cutting metal conduit and PVC piping, reslotting screw heads, and removing rusty nail heads. The EZ Lock design makes changing accessories as easy as a pull, twist, and release, with no worry of losing a screw or needing a wrench. This pack includes five cut-off wheels. | |

Excellent cut-off wheels, long lasting, but buy the package with the mandrel if you don't already have a couple Mar 24, 2007
By David Beauchamp I bought this product and the EZ406 product (same but with a mandrel) from Amazon, I'm very pleased with these cut-off wheels for heavier duty jobs, they'll make quick work of 2mm-3mm steel, which is pretty impressive for my money with a Dremel.
A couple of thoughts:
1) The EZ406 package (Dremel EZ406 1 1/2-Inch EZ Lock Rotary Tool Cut-Off Wheel & Mandrel Metal Cutting Starter Kit) includes a quick change mandrel and the same number of cut-off wheels for only a couple dollars more, it's convenient to me to have multiple mandrels with accessories pre-attached (I know it's quick release, it's still convenient, and I have multiple rotary tools) so unless you already have a few 'EZ Lock' mandrels, I'd suggest that package.
2) These leave burns in wood incredibly easily, and yes I have a variable speed Dremel and use the various speeds. Maybe it sounds obvious to some, and admittedly the 'standard' fiberglass wheels do so as well, but even for a small quick wood cut I'd suggest taking the time to swap out for a plain old (non-fiberglass) heavy-duty cut-off wheel. Works fine for plastic though, cuts like butter.

Cuts great, doesn't break easily, but a major flaw May 24, 2011
By Charlie The EZ Lock cutting wheels are very quick to change out thanks to the Dremel EZ Lock collet. The wheels are high quality, remaining just flexible enough to not break apart at the slightest deviation in angle. I use these to cut bolts and other steel parts on cars where a reciprocating saw won't fit. However, just recently I experienced a failure of the cut-off wheel that reveals a serious design flaw.
While the wheels are flexible and seem to be long lasting, the center EZ Lock ring comes apart very easily. If the wheel gets stopped by metal or some other object, the center ring can come apart from the wheel resulting in a useless disc. Other than this design flaw, the wheels are very nice and a significant improvement over the cheap red discs you buy in bulk.
Overall: 3/5 stars, would be 4 stars if it weren't for the fact the center ring comes apart very easily.

Expensive, but timer-savers Jan 26, 2007

If you've used other Dremel bits, you know they can explode easily. This one installs in seconds and cuts like a dream, and is reinforced so it doesn't disintegrate when you use it. No more screwing disks onto shafts, gotta love that. 4 stars, not 5, because it's expensive.

dog door installation Oct 09, 2010
By Mike I tried to use these to install a dog door in a metal door. They were helpful but wore out too quickly. I ended up using them to start a cut and using a reciprocating saw to do the bulk of the cutting. Even so I went through almost three to install one little dog door.

Excellent Cutter for Dremel Tools. Apr 05, 2011

These work great at cutting almost anything. With the EZ-Lock Mandrel they come off and on in seconds. I've cut metal, plastic, wood and probably other things too.
However they are not very rugged and can break quite easily if abused. If you use them with care you won't have a problem. But if you apply too much pressure you can crack them. If you lay the tool down, do not put anything on it or push on it as you can easily crack the disc. But once I broke one, I took more care after that and remove the disc from the mandrel when storing the tool and have not broken any more discs.
The other problem is that they wear quickly. If you only occasionally need a disc cutter like this, it could last you quite awhile. Even with the quick wear, I still buy them because I can change to a fresh disc quickly and get the job done. If I am going to do a lot of metal cutting, I use metal cutting discs that mount to a different type of mandrel that secures the cutting disc with a screw. These are a lot cheaper but take more time to change discs.
Overall though I still like these Dremel EZ-Lock discs and will continue to buy them. And if you have any problems or need parts for any Dremel tools, Dremel has one of the best customer service departments I have ever encountered. Don't buy imitations, buy Dremel.
