| | Description | ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING AND DESIGN, 6E is an ideal book for all architectural drafters and CAD operators, whether beginning, intermediate, or advanced. An important feature of this best-seller is its step-by-step instructions for the design and layout of each type of drawing associated with a complete set of architectural plans, with projects that can be completed using either CAD or manual drawing methods. The basics of residential design, commercial drafting, basic materials used for construction, common construction methods, and drawings typically associated with commercial construction are all covered in this comprehensive book, which is written to meet the most recent editions of IRC and IBC. Readers will be introduced to the various types of projects that a designer or architect is likely to complete during the actual design process and will gain the knowledge needed to complete the drawings required by most municipalities to obtain a building permit for a single-family residence. | |

A very great book for the architect or design student Oct 28, 1998 This book is great. It has everything in it you need to know about different architect and design terms. There are also a lot of floor plan sketches in it to show you how they are done. This book has many units on individual topics. The plumbing section is interesting along with the electrical. I reccomend this book to anyone who is interested in studying architect or drafting. This is a great book to solve all of your worries about the field of architecture.

Great for a newcomer to the architectural world Sep 25, 2002 I bought it used (1996 edition)at a bargain rate, in top condition. I'm changing from mechanical to architectural design and the book is priceless for me. It has all the basics, and lots of details. The book is a textbook with assignments and tests. Saves going to class. The focus is on design rather than CAD.

This Is An Outstanding Textbook Oct 19, 2010
By Larry Cohn I have nothing but wonderful things to say about the Architectural Drafting and Design textbook. It is one of the most comprehensive, clear, well-organized, easy-to-read textbooks of its type. If you plan on preparing to take the test to be ADDA certified, or just desire a great depth and breadth of the subject, this is the book for you. It is an incredible book that you will absolutely love reading and studying. The foundational knowledge and understanding you will gain from it is invaluable and worth every minute of your time. Thank you, David Madsen and Alan Jefferis, for writing it.

Awesome Architectural Drafting and Design Book Jul 29, 2010
By Ron Palma The Architectural Drafting and Design book is an awesome book! I used the book when going through college many years ago and thought it was a very well written book then, especially from the standpoint of learning the ENTIRE architectural process and how it applies more specifically to creating construction documents, presentation drawings, and information. Since then I have used the book in my own classes teaching at the local community college and it has proved to be an invaluable resource. This latest version includes the latest techniques and strategies, and work process for the ever evolving architectural world. Kudos to David and Alan for a book well done!

A must have book for drafting classes Oct 15, 2011
By Lynn
"Sassy Creole"
I have looked all over for a book I could use for my drafting class. I started my search in the second week of my class. When we began to discuss roofs and rafter details I knew I needed more info. My instructor assigned "Building Construction Illustrated" by Francis D.K. Ching, a great must have reference book, but not the best stand-alone text book for an Architectural class. I needed more, so I searched for anything I could find on "Roofs" and I found a pdf file which had chapter 20 of "Architectural Drafting and Design." It had just what I have been looking for. I knew that I had to have this book. What I find really helpful about the book were the wonderful colorful illustrations and photographs. The book is written and the other advantages are the end-of-chapter "additional reading" sections which gives a host of links to further info on various topics discussed. The "used" prices (less than $10) makes this book a great bargin, you can't get a better book for ~ $8 in the used market.
