| |
| | Description | This compact cassette hose reel combines many fine qualities in a most convenient package. It's easy to carry around, exceptionally easy to store, and rugged and waterproof to boot. There are mounting holes on the side in case you want to hang it on the wall when you're not using it, and the double O-rings keep the unit from leaking. Toe tabs help stabilize the cassette when you're pulling out lengths of hose, and the hose winds up easily into its carrier case. And, best of all, this cassette comes with its own hose--65 feet of it. On the downside, this structure needs to be assembled, which isn't a speedy process. And 65 feet of hose may not be enough for your lawn and garden. If it is, however, this cassette reel is a good bet. | |

Best Portable Hose Real Aug 12, 2008
By Mona Lisa
"M.W."
I say that, but there may be big ol' wheely cart like things out there that are better and hold a lot more hose. For those of you who don't want a giant piece of funky looking stuff to store or haul around, and would rather have a reliable convenient hose real that doesn't stick out and look cheap and ugly but works,....then this would be the one. And BELIEVE ME I have tried lots of hose reels! I loath most of them and especially the way they trash up a yard.
I got an extra 25 ft of hose in case I needed more length. It only holds so much and we find we are using the 25 extra ft on occasion as well. (we have a long driveway) 25 ft of hose is easy to mess with and can just sit by the faucet coiled up neatly.
The only improvement I could see them using on this would be to put a little weight on the bottom of it because if the ground is not completely level it falls over sometimes when one is pulling the hose out. Not a biggy,...still works.
It's SO easy just to pick it up and carry from our back yard to the front yard. It's super easy to pull the hose out and roll it back up in comparison to the "Big Boys." I will bring it in in the winter and it will be very easy to store because it takes up very little space.
This is the only hose reel I've ever had that doesn't make me feel like ripping my hair out! Always works smoothly.
UPDATE MARCH 26, 2009: I'm here to give this two thumbs up for durability! All the rest of the reels I've had have fallen apart by now or quit working smoothly. This one is still working like new. I really like it- it isn't nearly as cumbersome to use as the rest of the competition!! UPDATE MAY 4, 2011: Happy to say this hose reel is still going strong! That's a record for me in the hose reel department! Bring it inside in winter to store.

Practical for small yards or occaisional hose needs... Jul 07, 2008

Ames True Temper Cassette Hose King Reel with 65-Foot Hose
Pros:
- Compact, so it doesn't take much room to store.
- Lightweight, so it's easy to carry or put on an upper shelf for storage.
- Comfortable to carry when rolled up.
- Simple rewind mechanism works with little effort.
- Rustproof; so it can stay outside.
Cons:
- Light-duty thin hose material can kink. It won't last as long as a heavier-duty hose, if used frequently.
Summary:
I've had mine for about 10 years, but use it only occasionally (e.g., with a utility sump pump).
This is a good choice if you have a very small yard or little room to store a hose.

Best Hose Cart EVER! Nov 30, 2008
By Lisa D I was so excited to receive this product. I own a business and I need to use my hose year-round. In the winter, a traditional hose cart (the kind with wheels), would get it's wheels full of snow, and thereby getting snow in my house when I'd bring it inside so it doesn't freeze. This cart is so much easier, you just pick it up and move it. I do wish however that the hose was a better quality. It's a little flimsy, so I don't know how well it will hold up over time. I guess time will tell. But so far, I am loving this!!

Voila ! Finally, One that Works for Me ! Dec 03, 2011

"Think occasionally of the suffering of which you spare yourself the sight." ~ Albert Schweitzer"
Honestly, it took me 28 years of home ownership to find the solution to my garden hose problem. I've tried everything and spent hundreds of dollars on solutions for the hose on my front porch that never quite worked out for one reason or another. I didn't imagine this would work either. But here I am, 18 months later, with a still intact and quite well functioning garden hose and holder sitting on my front porch. I did not even bother to bring it indoors last winter, because I never dreamed it would hold up past one season of use. Easy to roll and unroll. Lightweight for easy portability if needed. And in the heat of the summer I roll and unroll this daily for watering the garden, hosing down the driveway, washing the car, etc. It has been so well worth the price paid for it. Next spring, I plan to invest in another for my back yard. I feel like I won the lottery with this product!

Ordered Two, Both Defective Sep 06, 2011
By Seraph77 I ordered two at the same time (one for front of house, one for the back) and they were both defective.
While one leaked from the bottom of the housing that connects to the faucet, the other one GUSHED water from inside the case where the outside line should connect to the actual hose.
