Good introduction to accounting Nov 19, 2008
By Sandman The book does a good job of exploring the basics of accounting. It explains concepts by demonstrating the use of a manual accounting system. The examples are well thought out and easy to understand. Computerized accounting systems are discussed only briefly.
The Excel templates downloaded from the companion website are an excellent resource. They lead you through the preparation of various ledgers, forms and reports. The templates include validation of the user's entries, so you receive immediate feedback when something is entered wrong. If you use the templates to complete the exercises at the end of each chapter, you literally can't go wrong.
The table of contents is rather hard to read. It employs lots of different fonts and colors which make it difficult to find the chapter or topic you are looking for.
The actual book itself uses a lot of graphics, almost to the point where the pages themselves are too noisy. Nevertheless, many of the graphics are helpful and make up for the "graphic noise" on every page.

Good, but incomplete Oct 08, 2011

This book is not bad, but it has a couple primary faults. The 22nd edition was better. Much friendlier on the eyes as far as the boxes shown for the journal entries, and not so many distracting text boxes and margin notes about learning objectives. The discussion is generally ok but I found that my professors' lectures filled in many gaps of the textbook. In many ways it just seemed like this book was incomplete. The problems in the book are good but there is no solutions manual available to students, even for some of the exercises and problems. It sure would've helped if there was. Instead, they give partial answers in the margin for a few of the problems here and there.

Required for HCC accounting class. Sep 01, 2010
By Lawrence B Marks This book was required for Accounting 1 and 2. It does a good job with difficult information. If you are trying to save money, also look at the publishers loose leaf books which can cost half of a hardcover bound book. They also have the advantage of you being able to only bring to class the part of the book you are working on, saving you significant weight in your backpack.

Kindle Version Jun 04, 2010
By A. Antoine Overall, it is a great book for an introduction to basic accounting. My only complaint is I bought the Kindle edition of this book because it was cheaper than any other book I found and I thought I could access it on my Kindle and my Kindle for PC. Unfortunately, this book is not accessible on Kindle for PC and the book does not allow the search function on my Kindle. It is extremely hard to navigate through the book on my Kindle if I need to go back to a previous chapter.
After seeing the problems on my Kindle, I wish I would have spent the extra money and bought a physical edition of this book.
