Great look, but don't expect it to tame the beast. Jun 01, 2009
By D. Nicholson This is a vast improvement over the original wood stocks that come with these rifles. For my M91/30 it did drop right in with only a little filing that had to be on the front lip of the magazine where the upper and lower parts mate in order for bolt to chamber correctly (lip just stuck up a little too high and the bolt would catch on it). It was obvious and simple to do.
Overall its a great replacement stock with a good feel. I was hoping that the butt pad would be a little better (more forgiving), so that it might dull the kick of this thing a little, but its pretty hard. Needless to say after shooting 50 rounds at the range this weekend, I still have a sore (slightly bruised) shoulder. So a recommendation would still be to buy an additional recoil pad for days at the range.
Also be careful with the cleaning fluids on this, as some will slightly discolor the stock (as I have found out). I recommend disassembling the rifle and setting the stock aside before using anything that is not water based to clean the metal parts.

Excellent Product Nov 21, 2008
By Harrison T. Stearns The reciever and trigger housing dropped right in with no problem. Was very easy to do, and really made the rifle look good. It lightened it by a few pounds as well, but because there is a rubber butt-plate as opposed to the old steel one, the recoil wasn't severly affected, if anything it is more controlable. Absolutley recomend this product.

A new look for an old rifle Jan 08, 2011

"Alex"
I didn't buy my item through Amazon, but just wanted to give it a quick review, as I buy a lot of stuff here and always rely on such customers opinions. My 91/30 dropped in perfectly, just like it was advertised. No filing was needed. I have two Mosin's, one with round, and one with hexagonal receiver (earlier production model), and it worked for both of them flawlessly. This quick modification has changed the old rifle's look completely. Besides its "cool" appearance, this new stock is more durable, weather proof, etc. And rubber butt plate is a big plus, compared to the original steel one. This Mosin kicks like a mule, and that butt plate sure helps you to reduce the rifle's recoil. Now this is my primary deer gun. I have heard people call it "the Poor man's hunting rifle" and I totally agree wit it. Please bear in mind that this is an old military gun, and will not surpass in quality any of the commercial guns available on a market. However it is rough, tough, extremely reliable, and powerful. New replacement stock makes it even more appealing. And the price of this setup (rifle + stock), well under [...], makes it hard to beat. I would definitely recommend this stock to anybody who is looking for a cheap deer rifle, or a cheap shooter, this is the way to go. I'm very pleased with my purchase, and overall this stock is a great product, the only reason I gave it a four star rating, because of a chick piece. I only wish that ATI made these stocks for left-handed shooters, too.

Mosin Nagant Stock Jul 28, 2008
By Lee E. Smith The package arrived on time and packed well. The instructions were not needed but matched what needed to be done. I am very pleased with the product. A buddy of mine said he had to modify the stock to get the assembly fully seated but I did not have such an issue. I would recommend this product to all..

Medium to Bottom end quality synthetic stock..Warped. Sep 05, 2011
By Reverend Daemon I was really looking forward to modernizing my Mosin Nagant until I started working on making this thing fit properly. Don't get me wrong, if you have no intention of floating the barrel then this won't take too much work. Unfortunately, I am looking for accuracy from my rifle and wanted to float the barrel. I found that the barrel end was warped to the right by almost a 1/4 inch, which is alot when you are trying to sand it down go have it not push on the barrel. It was bad enough that eventually I gave up and shortened the foregrip area by about 4 inches with a hacksaw to get rid of some of the curve. Eventually, I ended up with something reasonable looking but the amount of work was ridiculous. We aren't talking about standard inletting here, we are talking about compensating for poor quality control.
If just one other company came out with a decent synthetic stock for the Mosin Nagant they would instantly blow ATI out of the water.
Other than the rather severe aforementioned defect, the stock felt pretty solid.
