A nice touch! (and nice to touch) Oct 27, 2010
By Nathan A. Edwards While trying to pull this item out of the box I wondered what type of sticky, residue leaving, substance had been applied to it to form its non-slip surface. Much to my surprise, there was no such substance; however it is truly a non-slip product. Because of this I would happily utilize this product, and recommend its use on any typical desk surface.
Beyond my elation with regard to its steadfastness, the 3M Wrist Rest is a pleasure to utilize. That is, it's comfortable and works well with a standard desktop keyboard. My wife even says that the design makes her office seem a little less like a prison cell. Overall, it is a wonderful product which, I believe, can also be coupled with a matching 3M(TM) Mouse Pad, Clear Gel Wrist Rest, Daisy Design if one is trying to achieve a larger scale daisy theme.

Supportive and Just-Right Squishy Oct 04, 2010
By Sir Charles Panther
"Life is hard. It's harder when you're stupid."
The vital specs: it's 18" long, 1 ¾" wide at its most narrow and 2 ¾" wide at its widest point (it's straight on one side and has a slight convex, smile-shaped curve on the other). It's overall ¾" thick, with the hard plastic base making up ¼" of that and the gel portion making up the remaining ½". It's made in Taiwan.
It weighs in at almost exactly one pound. It stays in place very nicely, as 3M has put a stickum-kind of material on the base that keeps it from moving. My first concern was for this kind of semi-adhesive surface to pick up dirt and dust, but more than a week of use did not show this fault.
The rest contact surface is good, a smooth plastic cover (of indeterminate thickness) over the gel. Compared to some of the more popular wrist rests, with their neoprene or synthetic cloth over the gel (striking me as repurposing unsold wetsuits), this seems a little better, in that it remains smooth, and there is no cloth to come loose from the underlying gel, no potential for puckered or loose cloth on a well-used rest. Even with a little sweat on the wrists it does not get sticky.
I wear a heavy wristwatch with a metal wristband, and while it did leave indentations in the rest after use, none of these were permanent, nor were there any scuffs or tears in the surface.
Interestingly enough, this 3M product--model WR308DS--is serial-numbered. It's not entirely clear why that is.
Also interesting is that as part of the 100% satisfaction guarantee, the packaging says this product is guaranteed not to leak. That's good, but leak what? Is that really some kind of liquid or semi-liquid gel inside? If so, I'd think the 3M copywriters would have played this up as a major selling point, but there is no mention of the nature of the gel on the package. More mystery.
Bottom line: I always thought wrist rests were pretty straightforward items, some modest padding the width of a keyboard. The improvements this product offers shows that 3M is thinking about users, and using innovative materials and unique attributes to make this simple product better. Maybe that's what accounts for what strikes me as a rather steep price.

Takes some getting used to Sep 21, 2010

"Message from Montie"
Because I'm a freelance journalist who works from home, I spend a good 8 or more hours on my computer. This means I type a lot and browse the web nonstop. Although I'm content without the gel wrist rest, I hear that it's a better idea to have one to avoid carpel tunnel so I'm trying to use this thing. It takes a lot of getting used to, and I have to readjust how I type. I'm used to typing with my mid-arms on the edge of my desk, probably because I spend a lot of time sitting yoga style in my desk chair. While I can still stay in the same position legwise, this wrist rest certainly makes me sit up a little straighter. I don't know whether I like it or not, but I'm sure my wrists will thank me later. The one great thing I can say about it is that it's comfortable to fold my arms on when I'm reading something for a long period of time and don't have to have my hands out to move the mouse. The design certainly gives my desk some surprising color, not really my style fashion wise but it does the job so I'll deal.

Pretty, functional..and a little chilly!? Apr 22, 2010

What can you say about a gel wrist rest? This one is very pretty--that's why I chose it. The only little thing (and it is a little thing) is that its cold. When my office temperature drops at night and I come in first thing in the morning, that silly little wrist rest is chilly. Silly, I know. I had a fabric covered one previously--that got stained over time but was more comfortable.
