I bought this unit rather than a keyboard tray because it required no installation and was supposed to accomplish the same thing. I wound up returning it for many reasons.
First, I placed a 22 inch Samsung LCD monitor on top of the unit. This monitor is not particularly heavy compared to traditional monitors. As a result, because there was not a lot of weight on top of the unit, the keyboard platform--and in fact the whole unit--noticeably wobbled when I typed. It all seemed fairly unstable.
Second, I use the Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard, which is slightly upturned in the back. It would not slide all the way into the unit for storage. I suspect that the same thing would occur with any keyboard that is not completely flat.
Third, the workmanship leaves something to be desired. I had to use a rubber mallet to reposition a plastic runner, a loose screw fell out from out of nowhere, and the mechanism for sliding the tray in and out was somewhat stiff and did not go in and out smoothly the way that a keyboard tray installed under a desk does.
Fourth, while the unit has a tilt feature, it did not permit positioning the keyboard horizontal to the floor; there was always an angle, and more than I needed.
Fifth, while the unit has a height adjustment that enables lowering the keyboard several inches, that involved pulling out the sliding mechanism more and more, and the more it was pulled out, the less stable everything became.
Sixth, while there is room for a mouse, it is less space than on a traditional mousepad. Not a serious shortcoming, but something to think about.
Installation of a keyboard tray can be a nuisance, but at least there are no issues of stability, and the keyboard trays that I have used have slid in and out smoothly, unlike this unit.
I really wanted to like this unit, but in light of the above, I sent it back. I would suggest if at all possible trying to see this unit in person somewhere before buying it, especially since it weighs 23 pounds and therefore the cost of return shipping is not cheap.

These (I got 2) are incredibly wonderful. I am a graphic designer and long days at the keyboard have killed my wrists. This gadget fits on your desktop with the edge flush with the desktop and you put your monitor on top and pull the keyboard shelf out and down. The shelf holds your keyboard and mouse and is plenty big to hold both and do some serious mousing! I have 2 huge Viewsonic monster monitors, each 21" and they weigh a ton. The box the monitor goes on is steel and rated at 80lbs. and holds my monitor fine without any buckling. The shelfs have 4 levels you can lower them to. You can adjust them all the way to your lap. The shelf also tilts forward as much as you like and locks in position so you really have a totally comfortable mousing and typing position. No more trying to raise your chair up to 8 feet to reach the keyboard comfortably. The keyboard and mouse are held on when the keyboard is tilted by a comfy gel wrist rest that has adheisive on the back and is placed at the edge of the shelf. Ditto the super-slick 3M mousepad, also with adheisive, both included. The box makes for great storage when the keyboard is out. I really have loved my adjustable keyboards - for the price, these are the BEST and really cheap if you want some ergonomic relief. I thought they were really pricy until I tried them. Love it!

I've had this keyboard/monitor stand for a while now and all I can say is wow! I love it! It raised the base level of my monitor about 4 inches or so, which is perfect for my desk setup. The keyboard position before I had this was in an uncomfortable spot, but with the adjustable pull-out mouse/keyboard tray, it's now in a very comfortable position. The adjustable tray has 4 different levels for whatever situation, and is also tilt adjustable. So really, this product was a two for one; monitor stand and keyboard tray (as the product was meant for). As for the spacing,there could be more for the mouse. I mostly use my computer for gaming, so a large space for mouse movement is sort of required but it's good enough. Also because the keyboard and mouse get stored underneath the stand, it's freed up some space on top.
No real cons.
